Ernestine’s Accessories

In July of 2008, Henderson, Kentucky Master Fine Artist, Chris Thomas, was commissioned for this still life in oil.

Mementoes with significant meaning in Catherine Ernestine Seitz’s life (my maternal grandmother) were selected. More than 15 items were taken to Chris Thomas and he chose the seven seen here to create “Ernestine’s Accessories”. This 18” x 20” photo realism oil painting is a spectacular study in light, color and composition.

Each object has significant meaning: the carnival glass bowl of fruit her mother, Virgie Hoover, served ambrosia from during the holidays; the leather gloves and topaz necklace & bracelet are symbols of Ernestine’s keen eye for fashion; the tape measure represents her 50 plus year career in the fashion textiles industry, with the majority of those years at C.B.S. Dress Factory in Henderson Kentucky; the pumpkin paisley Saro scarf, was one of the last fashion gifts I gave her; the abundance of fruit symbolizes God’s gift of family and the importance of both to her.

Ten limited edition professional prints were made from the original and is was my gift to family Christmas 2008. May they enjoy many memories of the time they spent with an incredible loving mother, grandmother (Ernestine Seitz) and friend.

Gleaner 1977 sitting on singer 0091 Ernestine Seitz (Granny) is 95 + years old and still lives in her Grantwood home.  She is in latter stages of Parkinson’s Disease.  My mother Martha Gibson along with caretaker Regina Gregory give Granny round the clock care.
